My Grandmother's Donuts

My grandmother was a wonderful woman - the best person I have ever known, who unfortunately (especially for my grandpa) completely didn't have a hand for cooking or baking. This doesn't mean, however, that her lack of culinary talent discouraged her even a little bit. From time to time, she baked us a cake on Sunday. It's always the same, and always a slack-baked cake. Hard as a rock. My father used to say that you could kill someone with it.

But, believe it or not, I loved this cake, and I was the only one who ate it - every single time! And if someone asked what's my favorite food, the answer was always the same: my grandma's slack-baked cake! Now I wonder if I really enjoyed my grandmother's baked goods, or if I just didn't want to upset her ...

Please, rate my recipe!

5 stars for Grandma's Donuts Recipe

Ingredients

With that being said, my grandmother surprisingly had one culinary specialty, that was just great and unbeatable! Homemade donuts. Everybody actually called them "Kisses". Why? Don't ask me! All I know, they are fantastic! Heaven in your mouth! Sometimes I helped shaping the dough. It was always a lot of fun! After donuts were fried and ready, grandma always divided them for all of us, grand kids, in separate bowls, so we wouldn't fight. Trust me, the kisses were worth fighting for!
Years later my cousin and I decided to try the recipe. They came out great. We even invited friends over, and everyone enjoyed our donuts very much.

Here is the recipe - very easy! If we could do it, you can too!

- 1 lb farmers cheese

- 3 eggs

- 3 tablespoons of sour cream

- 3 tablespoons of sugar

- 1 pack of vanilla sugar

- 1 teaspoon baking soda

- 4 cups of flour

- 1 tablespoon of vinegar

- vegetable oil for frying

Crush farmers cheese well with a fork, add the remaining ingredients, and, when it comes to flour, start with 3 cups, and leave 1 cup for dusting the dough. Work the dough with your hands. That's the least fun part, since It will be quite sticky, so you have to dust it with the remaining cup of flour. Keep adding it slowly until the dough stops sticking to your hands. Then roll out the dough and cut out circles with a medium size coffee cup, and then use a shot glass to cut smaller circles in the middle of the large circles. Almost done - your donuts are ready to be thrown into a deep hot oil! Fry them on both sides, drain the fat on a paper towel, and sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Enjoy! :-) Kids especially love the little bite-size kisses (cut out of the large "kisses").
